Changes proposed in NATA 2019 Pattern, Attempts, Counselling

The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA), conducted by Council of Architecture, is likely to be held twice a year, starting 2019. While speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Mr Vijay Garg, President of CoA, mentioned 3 key changes that are likely to be introduced :

1. Conduct of NATA twice every year, once in mid-April and once in first week of July. Students may appear in both. The best score will be considered for admissions.

2. Aptitude paper duration to be reduced from to 60 minutes and that of Drawing paper to be increased to 120 minutes (earlier, both were of 90 minutes duration each)

3. Proposal to have a national level counselling for admissions in B.Arch course

He also stated that study of Physics, Chemistry, Maths at 10+2 level has been made a mandatory eligibility criteria for B.Arch since construction now is becoming technology oriented.

NATA measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.
