UGC caution - Pragyan International University DOES NOT EXIST

In a Public notice dated 17 Jan 2025, University Grants Commission (UGC)  has informed about the “non-existent” status of Pragyan International University, Ranchi, Jharkhand. Extract of the notice reads as below:

“. . . Pragyan International University has not come into existence even after establishment in the year 2016 and teaching-learning have not started.

In view of the above, the stakeholders including the student community is informed that the name of Pragyan International University, Ranchi, Jharkhand has been removed from the UGC list of Universities under Section 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956.”

As per the latest list published by UGC, there are a total of 1193 approved Universities in India, as listed below:

- 57 Central Universities

- 496 State Universities

- 138 Deemed to be Universities

- 502 Private Universities
