The Delhi government is planning to start a sports university, which will award degrees to students who want to pursue sports so as to enable them to earn a livelihood.
Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who is also the state education and sports minister, said many talented students are not able to pursue sports because they worry about not finding employment due to lack of academic degrees.
A boy had met me during the election campaigning and told me that he focused on sports after Class XII and went on to play at the state level, but could not complete his studies. Wherever he applies for job, he is told that he is not even a graduate. This is why we are going to open a sports university so that degrees are given to those who want to focus on sports, Sisodia said.
