SC to decide on centralized counseling for Medical seats
Published on : 20-Sep-2016 Powered by www.Opasis.comAfter ruling in favour of NEET, the common all-India entrance examination for all undergraduate MBBS & BDS programs across institutes, including private ones, the Supreme Court will now decide whether there should be a centralised counselling session within a state for students for allotment of institutions.
The issue came up because two states – Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra – have moved the top court seeking a direction to private medical colleges to admit candidates attending state government counselling. The states' plea is that students end up taking multiple couseling sessions and spending upwards of Rs.5000/- towards each counseling. A centralized counseling, like the centralized entrance exam, will help the students save time & money. They also argues that such a mechanism will streamline the admission process.
A five-judge bench headed by Justice AR Dave will commence the hearing on Monday. The final outcome will have a bearing on admissions in other states too.
