India still a laggard in World University Rankings

Indian Universities continue to struggle in maintaining and improving their global rankings.   As per the recent Times Higher Educations World University Rankings 2016 - 2017, the best ranked Indian University was Indian Institute of Science (IISc) which was ranked 201-250th.  
Compare this with the best Chinese University, Peking University, which is ranked 29 in the world.

Only 31 Indian educational institutions managed to secure a place on this list.  China did much better. It saw 51 of its educational institutes get listed here.
