Published on : 01-Jun-2021 Powered by www.Opasis.comIndian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), the oldest science research institute of its kind in India (established in 1876), offering premium 5 Yr Integrated BS-MS programme plans to conduct its UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (IACS-UPST) tentatively on 20 July 2021.
About the course : IACS is conducting a de novo 5 Year Integrated Bachelor's-Master's Program in Science for highly motivated students who have passed (10+2) Level Examination in science stream. The objective of this program is to provide high-quality education, research, and training in science. Through this special program, undergraduate teaching is integrated with modern research in all major Schools of Science. The first three semesters of the program will comprise foundational courses in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biological Sciences and Computer Science. From the fourth semester onwards the focus will be on one chosen subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biological Science, Mathematics and Computer Science) as major, subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria and from seventh semester the students will be directly exposed to research.
About the institute : Since its inception in 1876, IACS has been conducting research in fundamental sciences at the highest level. IACS is the only institution of India which has earned the Asia’s first and the country’s only Nobel Prize in Science on the basis of the work done from India.
Apart from fundamental researches in the various frontier areas of physics and chemistry, IACS has ventured in a significant way into the emerging multidisciplinary areas such as non-conventional energy sources, advanced and novel nano-materials, chemical biology and interdisciplinary sciences.
Change in selection procedure : Selection will be based on performance in UG Pre-Interview Screening Test (IACS-UPST) followed by interview, subject to obtaining 60% marks (reservation criteria will apply as per rules) in the qualifying board (10+2) examination.
In 2020, shortlisting for interviews was also done based on JEE-Mains (rank batter than 8000), NEET (rank batter than 8000) and KVPY (qualified candidates). 10 seats were filled through this channel. As there is no mention of such a provision this year, this mode of shortlisting seems to have been discontinued this year.
Stipend : Admitted students entering into the fourth year may be eligible to receive monthly stipend, following the institute norms (last year, the stipend offered was Rs.12,000 per month).
