Now’s the time!

Enter an Ayn Rand Institute essay contest and you’ll have a chance to win thousands of dollars in scholarship prize money.

Ayn Rand (1905-1982) was a Russian-American writer and philosopher and is known for developing a philosophical system she named Objectivism. Her three most popular works are - Anthem, Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged.    

ARI has held worldwide essay contests based on the above three works for students on Ayn Rand’s fiction for more than thirty years, awarding over $2 million in total prize money!

Ayn Rand Institutes' ANTHEM essay contest is open to school students from anywhere in the world

Students have to write three essays. The prompts for the essay are available once the student registers for the competition.  

Essays are evaluated by a panel of experienced educators and Objectivist scholars using a comprehensive rubric.

Key judging criteria include:

- understanding of the philosophical themes in the novel

- quality of critical analysis

- clarity and coherence of writing

- originality of insights

- logical structure and argumentation and

- proper grammar, syntax, and citation.

Judges look for thoughtful engagement with the text rather than mere plot summary.
