Applications to UG level Liberal programs are currently ongoing at Ashoka University, a premier private University based in Sonepat near New Delhi.

Courses offered at Ashoka University: 3 (+1 optional) year UG program in either B.A.(Hons) or B.Sc. (Hons)

About Ashoka University: Ashoka University is a private university with a focus on liberal arts and sciences. It was established in 2014 by efforts of 70 eminent personalities which include the likes of Ashok Trivedi (Co-Founder of iGate), Dilip Shanghvi (founder Sun Pharma), Nirmal Jain (founder India Infoline), Sanjeev Bikhchandani (naukri.com, shiksha.com) and Jaithirth Rao (founder MphasiS).

Each student needs to take a mandatory foundational course, majors, minors, co-curricular and optional concentrations.

Foundational Courses:
The University requires each student to take 9 Foundation Courses. Each of these courses is mandatory.

Majors: The university offers either a Pure Majors or Interdisciplinary Majors. A Major is a subject in which a student will earn a Bachelor’s degree. .  Undergraduate students at Ashoka University will have to declare their Major at the end of their third semester.

A minimum of 12 courses are required to complete a Major in a subject.

16 courses are required to complete an Interdisciplinary Major.

Minors:

Students are encouraged to consider declaring a Minor in addition to their Major. To qualify for a Minor, students must take 6 courses (24 credits) in a programme outside their field of Major specialization.

Admission Criteria

Admissions are carried out in 4 Rounds/cycles

Each round consists of 3 stages:

Stage1:

  1. Application submission (Academic scores. ACT/SAT scores, Personal Essays, Recommendation, Non-academic engagement)
  2. Assessments (Ashoka Aptitude Assessment, On-the-spot Essay)

Stage 2: Interview with panel (only of shortlisted candidates from Stage 1)

Stage 3: Decision & Financial aid

Fee:
Annual Fee (incl Tuition, Residence cost and other fees): Rs. 9,87,000

Financial aid:
Financial aid is assessed entirely on the basis of the financial standing of the student’s family.

  2. Attach all mandatory documents to prevent the application form (e.g. photograph, government identification document, examination mark-sheets, artwork, writing samples, web-links, letters of experience/completion/appointment etc.)
  3. The applicants are required to respond to three mandatory personal essay prompts

Eligibility

  • Candidates from any stream can apply
  • Ashoka University has specific policies for particular disciplines/courses for students who wish to Major or Minor in any of the disciplines listed below:
    • Mathematics is mandatory in Class 11 & 12 if student would like to choose Economics, Economics & Finance, Economics & History, Politics, Philosophy & Economics
    • Mathematics is mandatory in Class 11 & 12  if following disciplines are chosen as majors or minors but the department may make a case-by-case exception if the student demonstrates that he/she has sufficient grasp of Mathematics – Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Science & Entrepreneurship, Computer Science & Mathematics.
    • Mathematics & Physics is mandatory in Class 11 & 12 if Physics is chosen as the discipline of Major or Minor but the department may make a case-by-case exception if the student demonstrates that he/she has sufficient grasp of Mathematics and Physics

Selection Process

Stage 1:

  • Personal details
  • Academic performance from Grade IX to XII, or equivalent (application can be submitted before Grade XII results are declared)
  • Details of candidate’s extracurricular and co-curricular involvement
  • A 500-word personal essay to share the candidate’s story to get the University to know them better
  • Letter of Recommendation (highly recommended) ŸSAT/ ACT score (optional)

Stage 2:

  • On-the-spot Essay (30 minutes; Mandatory)

AAT format: 40 MCQs, consisting of:

  • 20 problem-solving questions
  • 20 critical thinking questions

  • Decision Notification: Between 8-13 January 2021
