916 applicants per MBBS seat in JIPMER !

There has been an unprecedented rise in number of applicants for MBBS course in JIPMER with as many as 1,37,435 students applying for the common All India Entrance Exam for Admission to 150 MBBS seats in the institute.

The MBBS entrance exam would be conducted in 75 cities across the country with 581 test venues on June 7. The exam would be conducted in several parts of India making it convenient for students aspiring to seek admission in JIPMER, said Director JIPMER Dr S C Parija.

Last year, 93,000 students had written the examination in 360 test venues in 30 cities. Out of 150, 5 seats are earmarked for NRI/OCI and 40 seats for Pondicherry Residents. The rest of the seats would be filled with 50 seats under unreserved category, 28 for backward classes, 16 for scheduled caste, 11 for scheduled tribe. Among the 40 reserved seats for Puducherry residents, 23 are unreserved, 11 for Other Backward Classes and six for scheduled caste students.
