Guru  Ghasidas  Vishwavidyalaya,  a  Central  University  established  by  an  Act  2009  of  the Parliament, was originally established as State University by an Act of State Legislative Assembly of the then undivided Madhya Pradesh on 16 June 1983. NAAC has accredited the University as B. Established in a 655 acre campus, it is  a  semi residential  institution and covers almost the total spectrum of higher education in 32 teaching departments offering various courses in the areas of Arts, Commerce, Education, Engineering and Technology, Humanities, Life Sciences, Management, Pharmacy, Sciences and Social Sciences.
