The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) is an Deemed University founded in 1998. A Governing Council consisting of eminent people from academia, industry and government presides over the governance of the institution. Some of the luminaries in the council are Prof. Raj Reddy (University Professor of Computer Science & Robotics, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, USA), Shri R. Chandrashekhar (President - NASSCOM), Shri S. Ramadorai (Vice Chairman - TCS), Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala (Professor - IIT Delhi) etc. IIIT-H is organized as research centres and labs, instead of the conventional departments, to facilitate interdisciplinary research and a seamless flow of knowledge within the Institute.  Students, even at the undergraduate level, get to participate in ongoing research and technology development - an opportunity unprecedented in India.

IIIT-H conducts admissions to 5 year integrated degree programs via an UGEE (Under Graduate Entrance Exam).
For the four year B.Tech programs, it uses other channels like KVPY/Olympiad candidates, DASA (Direct Admissions for Students Abroad) or via JEE (Main scores).

For Admissions  via UGEE (with intake):
For all of the 5 dual-degree programs, UGEE comprises of Subject Proficiency Test (SUPR) and Research Aptitude Test (REAP)
a) B.Tech & M.S in Computer Science & Engineering by Research (ECD) - 25 seats
b) B.Tech & M.S in Electronics and Communication Engineering by Research (CSD) - 35 seats
c) B.Tech in Computer Science & M.S. in Computational Linguistics by Research (CLD) - 15 seats
d) B.Tech in Computer Science & M.S. in Computational Natural Sciences by Research (CND) - 15 seats
e) B.Tech in Computer Science & M.S. in Computing & Human Sciences (CHD) - 15 seats

Non-entrance route (Admission through Boards)- Applications will be invited separately for admission through boards. Such candidates will be shortlisted and called directly for interviews. Applicable only for CND and CHD programmes.

Reservation: There is no SC/ST/BC, women, physically challenged etc. quota or reservation of any kind for IIIT-H admissions. All admissions are strictly merit based and in an open category.

Dual-degree program details:
a) B.Tech & M.S in Computer Science & Engineering by Research (CSD)
At the end of the third year of B.Tech, students enrol for extra courses at the end of their third year and complete the first year equivalent of the MS by Research programme, while in the final year of the undergraduate programme. Dual Degree option enables students to acquire two degrees – B Tech (Hons) and MS by Research by successfully defending MS thesis.

b) B.Tech & M.S in Electronics and Communication Engineering by Research (ECD)
Students enrol for extra courses at the end of their third year and complete the first year equivalent of the MS by Research programme, while in the final year of the undergraduate programme. Dual Degree option enables students to acquire two degrees – B Tech (Hons) and MS by Research by successfully defending MS thesis.

c) B.Tech in Computer Science & M.S. in Computational Linguistics by Research (CLD)
Computational Linguistics (CL) deals with understanding and developing computational theories of human language. Such theories allow us to understand the structure of language and build computer software that can process language. There is a great emphasis today on machine learning where the machine learns from real life language data. Consequently, the field is close to both Linguistics as well as Artificial Intelligence.  If you have a fascination for scientific study of natural language and combining it with computer science., this area is for you. The dual-degree programme will give you a strong grounding in both Computer Science and Linguistics, and will prepare you for academic research as well as industry research jobs in Computational Linguistics.

d) B.Tech in Computer Science & M.S. in Computational Natural Sciences by Research (CND)
This program is about science - but it is not limited to the way science is traditionally practised. This is also about computer science and IT - but it is not about creating IT professionals. It is about the science that is emerging in the interface of the information revolution and the challenges posed by some of the grave issues and problems in today's world. From newer ways of acquisition and management of multivariate data on complex natural systems to newer ways of deriving knowledge from the data using novel methods of data visualization and computational simulation, the world today needs a different breed of enabled scientists who are ready to navigate this interface. This program is for those who have the inner desire to take on these grand scientific challenges.

e) B.Tech in Computer Science and Master of Science in Computing and Human Sciences by Research (CHD)
This programme aims to produce a new type of student – equally well trained in computer and social sciences – who can bridge the divide between technology and the human sciences. The main objective of the course is to build social science and humanities graduates who are proficient in computer sciences, with cross-disciplinary research capabilities which compare with the best in the world. This will be achieved by training students in the rigorous methods and deep understanding of the human sciences, while at the same time equipping them with state-of-the-art computer science knowledge.

Tuition Fee:  Rs.4,00,000/- per year
- Additional: Hostel charges (approx INR 3,000/- per month) and mess charges (approx INR 4,500/- per month).
- IIIT-H is a residential Institute and it is compulsory for all students to stay on-campus.
- For the fifth year, tuition fee support is expected to be provided by the Research Advisor/ Research Centre / Institute for all meritorious students.
- The alumni of IIITH have set up a fund to support successfully admitted students based on need. The assistance is provided on a 'pay-it-forward' basis. The fund provides the below support
>> Guaranteed full tuition support to admitted students whose family income is below Rs 8 lakhs per annum.
>> Students above the income threshold can also apply and may be awarded tuition support if their case is found by a committee to merit the same.
In a Pay-it-forward scheme, the student agrees to pay the tuition fees of another student after she/he graduates successfully and starts earning.
