About the Institute : The National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE) was established in 1964 in Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh with an aim to bring primary health services within the reach of all individuals. Earlier the Nursing Institute was offering graduate and postgraduate degree courses in nursing under Punjab University. According to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh (Amendment) Act, 2008 No. 3 of 2008, degrees are now awarded by this Institute.
NINE is also designated as WHO Collaborative centre since 2003.
It was declared as an Institute of National importance by an Act of Parliament (Act 51 of 1966) w.e.f. 1st April, 1967.

No. of seats : General 47, SC 14, ST 7, OBC 25, PwBD 5.
Reservation to PwBD candidates is given on horizontal basis and as per Govt. of India guidelines revised from time to time. The number of seats mentioned for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) will be adjusted against the category to which he / she belongs.
Selection criteria
a) The selection will be made strictly in order of merit of the candidates in the respective merit lists of entrance test.
b) Merit list is prepared for each category of candidates viz.
- General
- Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes / Other Backward Communities
- Persons with Benchmark Disability
- PGI in-service candidates
c) Overall rank of all the candidates shall be decided based on percentile scores, with a higher percentile score translating into a better rank.
d) An overall merit list based on the percentile obtained by all the candidates appearing in the entrance examination (irrespective of their category) will be prepared.
The minimum qualifying criteria of entrance test is as under:
General Category : 50th Percentile
SC/ST/OBC : 40th Percentile
General PwBD : 45th Percentile
SC/ST/OBC- PwBD : 40th Percentile
Stipend & Service bond : Institute awards stipend to all students during four years. Students are required to execute bond to serve the PGIMER, Chandigarh and other Central Govt. Institutions only for a period of three years if offered a job within six months by any of the above-mentioned institutes after the completion of the training otherwise after six months of the completion of the training, this condition of the bond will be in-operative. The students are required to open a Saving Bank Account with the SBI, Medical Institute Branch.
Fee structure
Tuition fee : Rs.250/- per annum
Library fee : Rs.30/- per annum
Laboratory fee : Rs.120/- per annum
Games fee : Rs.15/- per annum
Amalgamated fund : Rs.120/- per annum
Migration fee : Rs.100/-
Registration fee (payable on admission) : Rs.200/-
Security / Caution money (Refundable) ; Rs.5,000/-
Hostel security (one time, refundable) : Rs.1,500/-
Hostel fund on admission (non-refundable) : Rs.2000/-
Hostel/Room rent : Rs.1,200/- per annum for sharing occupancy and Rs.2,400/- for single occupancy
Electricity charges : Rs.500/- per annum per head
