Program Details: 3 year B.A. (Hons.) with option to graduate with BA (Hons. with Research) at 4 years.
The National Law School of India University (NLSIU) in Bengaluru has introduced a 3-year B.A. (Hons.) program, with an optional fourth year leading to a B.A. (Hons. with Research) degree, starting from the Academic Year 2025-26. This program offers a comprehensive liberal arts education, allowing students to specialize in disciplines such as History, Sociology & Anthropology, Economics, and Politics. The curriculum includes common core foundational courses, major-minor combinations or double majors, open electives, language studies, practice courses, and mandatory internships to ensure holistic development.
Internships: Students must complete at least one month-long internship each year.
Fourth Year: Eligible students write a 20,000-word dissertation and serve as a TA/RA, graduating with a BA (Hons. with Research) degree.
The B.A. (Hons.) program is offered exclusively at NLSIU's Bengaluru campus.

Reservations: NLSIU adheres to the following reservation policy:
- Scheduled Castes (SC): 15%
- Scheduled Tribes (ST): 7.5%
- Other Backward Classes (OBC-NCL): 27%
- Economically Weaker Sections (EWS): 10%
5% of the total intake shall be reserved horizontally for Persons with Disabilities (PWD);
30% of the total intake shall be reserved horizontally for women;
25% of the total intake shall be reserved horizontally (compartmentalised) for Karnataka Students. (refer eligibility section for details)
Admission Procedure: Admission is through the National Law School Admission Test for B.A. (NLSAT-BA), a national-level entrance exam.
While the application forms would begin in January, you can fill in the 'Expression of Interest' form that will not only provide you updates but will also help NLSUI understand the interest level for this program and help them plan better.
Course Fee: The fee structure for the Academic Year 2025-26 is as follows:
- Admission Fee (one-time): Rs. 13,000
- Tuition and Facilities Fee: Rs. 2,96,000 per annum
- Hostel Residential Charges: Rs. 1,23,500 per annum
- Total Annual Fee: Rs. 4,32,500
- Refundable deposits for SC/ST category students – Rs. 17,500/-
- Refundable deposits for other students – Rs. 22,000/-
- The total amount payable by SC/ST category students is Rs. 4,50,000/-.
- The total amount payable by other students is Rs. 4,54,500/-.
