The SPEC mode is a Special Channel of Admission for B.Tech programmes at the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H). This channel is aimed at identifying talented students with challenging circumstances (refer eligibility section).

(IIIT-H) is an Deemed University founded in 1998. A Governing Council consisting of eminent people from academia, industry and government presides over the governance of the institution. Some of the luminaries in the council are Prof. Raj Reddy (University Professor of Computer Science & Robotics, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, USA), Shri R. Chandrashekhar (President - NASSCOM), Shri S. Ramadorai (Vice Chairman - TCS), Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala (Professor - IIT Delhi) etc. IIIT-H is organized as research centres and labs, instead of the conventional departments, to facilitate interdisciplinary research and a seamless flow of knowledge within the Institute. Students, even at the undergraduate level, get to participate in ongoing research and technology development - an opportunity unprecedented in India.
IIIT-H also offers admissions via its UGEE program for its dual degree BS-MS programs.
Note: Candidates applying through UGEE mode are not eligible to apply through the SPEC mode.
Tuition Fee: Rs.4,50,000/- per year
- Additional: Hostel charges (approx INR 3,000/- per month) and mess charges (approx INR 4,500/- per month).
- IIIT-H is a residential Institute and it is compulsory for all students to stay on-campus.
Financial assistance:
- Guaranteed full tuition support to admitted students whose family income is below Rs 8 lakhs per annum.
- Financial support will be available to students whose family income is below 8 lakhs per annum from the 2nd semester, subject to availability and meeting stipulated criteria. Students above the income threshold can also apply and may be awarded tuition support if their case is found by a committee to merit the same.
- State Bank of India (IIIT branch) guarantees a SBI Scholar student loan to anyone who secures admission at IIITH for up to 40 lakhs (without the need for any security). This can be availed even if the applicant’s family has other existing loans.
