About the university: The erstwhile University of Cochin established in 1971 was later reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986, redefining its objectives as the promotion of graduate and post graduate studies and advanced research in applied science, technology, industry, commerce, management and social sciences.
There are two campuses (out of total three), as listed below, where the courses listed herein are offered:
1) Main Campus situated at Thrikkakara, Kalamassery, Kochi-22 (Referred to as Campus 1)
2) Kuttanadu Campus (CUCEK) situated at Pulincunnoo, Alappuzha District (80 KM away from Campus 1) (Referred to as Campus 2)
The third campus is at Lakeside Campus situated on the banks of Cochin Estuary and adjacent to Fine Arts Hall, Kochi - 16 (12 KM away from Campus 1) (Referred to as Lakeside Campus)
Please note that not all courses are available at both campuses. Campus wise course/seat availability is mentioned in subsequent para “Campus wise intake”.
NIRF Rank: The university is ranked 13 in “Law” category, 32 in “University” category and 50 in “Overall” category, 6 in “State Public University” category as per NIRF 2025, GoI.
NAAC accreditation : CUSAT has NAAC “A+” grade accreditation.
Seats: 84 in BBA-LLB(H), 42 in BCom-LLB(H). 25 in BSc(CS)-LLB(H) in Campus 2
Supernumerary seats are over and above these seats.
Seats for Children of staff of CUSAT : One seat each in BBA-LLB(H) and BCom-LLB(H) course (supernumerary) for the children of permanent employees of CUSAT.
Selection procedure : Admission to the course shall be made from the rank list prepared by University on the basis of score obtained by the candidate in the Common Admission Test.
Reservations / All India quota
Different seat quota available for State merit, All India merit and NRIs.
State merit seats are reserved only for Keralite students.
Both Keralites and Non-Keralites are eligible to apply under All India merit seats.
Reservation also available under various categories like SC, ST, SEBC, Differently Abled (DAC), Children of staff of CUSAT, Ex Servicemen, Sports, Jews, NRIs, CGW/Gulf Quota, Lakshadweep Sponsored Candidates, Students from J&K, Children of Kashmiri Migrants, Jewish community, Navy Sponsored Seats, Communal reservation etc. Pls read the details carefully (Chapter 20) of the prospectus before applying.
NRI status not mandatory for NRI seats: Any Indian Citizen/OCI card holder is eligible to apply for NRI seats.
NRI status is not compulsory to apply for seats under this category but the candidates should submit a ‘Declaration’ in the format given in the Annexure I at the time of their admission. Candidates who wish to apply for NRI seats must opt for the same at the time of online application itself and should pay the additional application fee of Rs.5,000/.
In addition to this, they have to opt for the NRI seats as one of their choice at the time of selecting the preference of programmes/seats.
OCI Candidates who secure OCI status before 04/03/2021 are eligible to be treated at par with Indian citizens for the limited purpose of admission. However, PIO/OCI candidates will not be eligible for any kind of reservation.
