Central University of Orissa was established under the Central Universities Act 2009, by an Act of Parliament (No.3C of 2009) of India and came into existence in 2009. It is one of the 15 new Central Universities established by the Government of India during the UGC XI Plan period to address the concerns of the Nation on the principles of “equity and access” to quality higher education.
The university currently runs 7 Schools and 14 Departments of studies.
The University has signed an MoUs with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Sunabeda, a leading Navaratna PSU, for promoting academics, research and regional development through partnership. Under this programme, ‘Distinguished Lecture Series’ have been initiated by inviting persons of eminence from various fields of Science, Technology, Literature, Humanities and Management, etc. for academic enrichment. Besides, CUO has also signed MoU with Council of Analytical Tribal Studies (COATS), Koraput, a leading research institute devoted to tribal economy, livelihood, society, and culture.

Basis of admission : The selection for the candidates will be based on the performance in the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET-2020). CUCET is a joint Entrance Exam conducted for admissions for various UG, PG and Research level programs offered by 15 Central Universities, 4 State Universities and 1 NIT (National Institute of Technology). This year Central University of Rajasthan is the Co-ordinating University for conducting the CUCET.

Limited hostel facility : The university has two hostels – One Boys Hostel and One Girls Hostel in its main campus. In view of the increasing demand of the students for hostel accommodation, against limited hostel seats, admission to a full-time programme of study in the University would not ensure allotment of hostel accommodation. Hostel seats are therefore offered to the eligible applicants subject to availability.

Semester fee : Rs.3,450
Hostel accommodation fee : Rs.3,100 in first semester, Rs.2,100 per semester thereafter
Others : Semester wise registration fee (Rs.5,350 in Sem 1 and reducing thereafter)
