The first self-financing Engineering College in the name of Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was started in Tamil Nadu in 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust. The trust then started Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital, in 1989. Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital was first recognized as a Deemed to be University by MHRD in July 2002 under the new trust Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER). The Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was then brought under the ambit of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) in January 2003. Later the following institutions of the trust were brought under the ambit of BIHER :

- Sree Balaji College of Nursing, Chennai

- Sree Balaji College of Physiotherapy, Chennai

- Sree Balaji Medical College and Hospital(SBMCH), Chennai

- Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SLIMS), Pudhucherry

Thus, Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) is providing multi-stream education. It is functioning in an area of 305 acres with 1.3 crore sq.ft buildings located in 6 Campuses both in Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry.

Special Scholarship : Students from Army, Navy, First Graduate or Economic back ground, physically challenged students are eligible for Special Scholarship.

Fee

For students who appear in BEEE Phase I (in April 2019), the annual tuition fee is Rs1,20,000 (excluding scholarship). Additionally, Academic and Career Development fee is Rs15,000. Hostel boarding and lodging is Rs80,000 per annum.

Tuition fee for those who take BEEE Phase II is Rs1,30,000. Rest of the fee is same as for those who are admitted through BEEE Phase I.

Reservation : Reservation for SC / ST / OBC and Physically Challenged candidates will be applicable as per the rules of Government of India for the time being.

Demand Draft (Non-refundable) for 20,000/- drawn in favour of “Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research”, payable at Chennai. Candidates without the DD for 20,000/- will not be permitted to attend the counselling.
