About AIIMS : An Act of Parliament in 1956 established the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS, New Delhi), as an autonomous Institution of National Importance and defined its objectives and functions. By virtue of this Act, the Institute grants its own medical degrees and other academic distinctions.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences have been established similar to AIIMS, New Delhi. Starting from 2013, B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing course was introduced in six new AIIMS at Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh. AIIMS Deoghar and Nagpur started from 2021 session. Rest introduced from 2024.

Counselling : Number of candidates called for counselling will be 4 times the number of seats advertised for various categories. The order of counselling will be General/EWS/OBC/ST/SC.
Medical fitness: The candidates selected for admission, will have to undergo medical examination by a Medical Board consisting of faculty members of the Institute. If, in the assessment of Medical Board, a candidate is found medically unfit, she will not be admitted. The decision of the Board shall be final. In that case, in her place next candidate in order of merit will be admitted.
