1. What is CLAT? 

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities in India.

CLAT is organized by the Consortium of National Law Universities, comprising representative universities.

All admissions to the 5-year integrated Ll.B. and Ll.M. programs that commence in the Academic Year 2023-2024 shall be through the CLAT 2023. 

2. What are the most common  Undergraduate Courses under CLAT Exam?

3. What is a National Law University (NLUs)?

National Law Universities (NLU) or National Law Schools are public (i.e., Govt. funded) law schools in India. The National Law School of India University (NLSUI) was the first law school to be setup in 1988.  Since then other states have established NLUs in their respective states.  Today, in all, there are 23 NLUs across India.

5. Wait. So, if there are 23 NLUs and only 22 NLUs opted for CLAT, which NLU isn't part of CLAT?
NLU Delhi is not part of CLAT.  NLU Delhi conducts its own entrance exam called All India Law Entrance TEst (AILET) for admissions to its UG-level law programs.

6. What are the eligibility criteria for the CLAT Exam?

  • There is no age limit prescribed for CLAT-2023.
  • Candidates who have qualified Class 12 board examination or equivalent are eligible to apply for the undergraduate programme in CLAT.
  • Candidates who are scheduled to take their qualifying examination in March/April 2023 are also eligible to take the CLAT 2023 exam. They will be asked to submit proof of passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they will lose their right to be considered for admission.
  • Candidates must secure the minimum percentage of marks in their qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent). 
  • Forty Five Percent (45%) Marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General / OBC / PwD / NRI / PIO / OCI / Categories. 
  • Forty Percent (40%) Marks or equivalent in the case of candidates belonging to SC / ST Candidates.

7. Is it necessary to have class 11/12 math knowledge to qualify for the CLAT Exam?

The CLAT Math section is intended to evaluate candidates' understanding of elementary mathematics, i.e., math taught up to the 10th Class/standard.

8. What are the career opportunities after passing the CLAT Exam? 

 There are several alternatives for acquiring a promising career after going through CLAT. 

Judiciary (Judge or Lawyer), Indian Corporate Law Services through UPSC, as a professor or lecturer in Law, etc., are some of the careers after clearing CLAT. 

 9. How many students take CLAT every year? 

The annual number of test takers every year varies. While nearly 70,000 students had attempted CLAT-2021, only around 56000 appeared for it in CLAT-2022.

 10. Is the CLAT Exam online or offline?

According to the CLAT exam format, the test will be conducted offline, and the question paper will contain objective-type questions. The test will last 120 minutes.
