UP Technical University will hold two entrance examinations for admissions to various technical institutions in the state. The state entrance exam (UPSEE) for only UP students will be held on April 18-19, while an All India Entrance Examination (AIEE) will be held in May. The counseling for both entrance exams will be held together. The decision has been taken after government approval.
According to technical education minister Shivakant Ojha, students from outside UP will appear for the entrance test. Also, students with UP domicile who could into appear in the first examination may also apply for the AIEE, which is likely to be held in the second week of May.
Reeling under shortfall of students, the decision will not only help university fill its seats but also increase diversity in colleges. The AIEE, however, will be held to fill up 25% seats only in private institutions. Admissions to government colleges will not be open to students from outside UP, said an official.
At present, 10% seats in private institutions are reserved for candidates appearing in JEE (Mains) and CMAT for BTech and MBA, respectively. Another 15% is the management quota applicable in all private colleges. Officials said the number of outside UP students joining under management quota were very few. And the same is the case with 10% reservation in JEE (Mains) and CMAT. The AIEE will ensure at least 25% seats are filled in the colleges, said Ojha.
