The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the NEET (UG) 2025 exam, the highly anticipated entrance test for admissions to undergraduate medical programs across India. With over 24 lakh students registering for NEET (UG) 2024, the 2025 edition is expected to witness even greater participation as it remains the only gateway for securing seats in MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BSMS, BUMS, and nursing programs.

Major Change in NEET (UG) 2025 Test Pattern

One of the most significant updates for NEET (UG) 2025 is the revised test pattern. Unlike the previous years, where the exam was divided into two sections (Section A and Section B), the 2025 exam will feature a single-section format. Each subject—Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology—will now consist of 45 compulsory questions, totaling 180 marks per subject and an overall score of 720 marks.

This change aims to streamline the exam structure, ensuring a more straightforward approach for aspirants. Previously, Section A had 35 questions, while Section B offered 15 questions, out of which candidates could attempt any 10. The new format eliminates this choice, making all 45 questions mandatory.

Why This Change Matters

The shift to a single-section format is designed to simplify the exam process and reduce confusion among students. It also aligns with the NTA’s goal of maintaining a standardized testing approach while ensuring fairness and transparency. Aspirants can now focus on a consistent question pattern, allowing them to strategize their preparation more effectively.

Eligibility and Admission Criteria

NEET (UG) 2025 is open to Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and Foreign Nationals who meet the eligibility criteria. The exam is mandatory for students aiming to pursue medical UG courses in India as well as those planning to study abroad.

Admissions will be based on the All India Rank (AIR) derived from NEET (UG) 2025 scores. The counseling process will be conducted for various quotas, including:

  • 15% All India Quota Seats
  • State Government Quota Seats
  • Central Institutions/Universities/Deemed Universities
  • Private Medical/Dental Colleges

Reservation policies for categories such as EWS, SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwBD will remain applicable as per government norms.

Key Dates to Remember

  • Last Date to Apply Online: March 7, 2025
  • Exam Date: May 4, 2025

Aspiring candidates are advised to mark their calendars and begin their preparation early to secure a competitive edge.

What This Means for Aspirants

The NEET (UG) 2025 exam is a critical milestone for students dreaming of a career in medicine. With the revised test pattern, aspirants must adapt their preparation strategies to focus on comprehensive subject mastery rather than sectional division. Additionally, staying updated with the latest syllabus, practicing mock tests, and managing time effectively will be key to success.

As the countdown to NEET (UG) 2025 begins, students are encouraged to leverage reliable resources and seek guidance from mentors to navigate this highly competitive exam.
