Applications closing soon for IIT Guwahati BS (DS & AI)
Applications will close on 30 May 2025 for admission in IIT Guwahati’s first fully online degree programme - Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, offered through IITG’s Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Eligibility: Class XII or equivalent with at least 60% marks and Mathematics as one of the compulsory subjects.
Please note that it is not mandatory to have studied science subjects in 10+2 (or equivalent qualifying examination).
Key points
- The programme will be 100% online and offered on Coursera platform targeting the international learners too. Assessments will be in online proctored mode.
- Designed for working professionals for enhancing their skills on the contemporary technologies as well as for those who have recently completed Class XII.
- Facilitates optional 4-week campus immersion plan for hands-on training at IIT Guwahati.
- Multiple exit options.
Program structure
a) Duration: Minimum duration of the programme is 4 years. It may be extended up to 8 years.
b) Trimester System: There will be 3 terms per year. Duration of each term is about 12 weeks. A gap of about two weeks will be provided after each term.
c) Credit Requirement: Total 299 credits for four-year BSc(Hons).

e) Multi-Exit System: The students may exit at various points by earning the respective certificate after the successful completion of the required coursework. Following multi-exit options will be made available to the students:
- Advanced Certificate in Data Science and AI (duration normal 1 to max 2 years)
- Diploma in Data Science and AI (duration normal 2 to max 4 years)
- B.Sc. Degree in Data Science and AI (duration normal 3 to max 6 years)
- B.Sc. (Honours) Degree in Data Science and AI (duration normal 4 to max 8 years)
Admission
Option 1
Applicants are required to undertake an online qualifier test to qualify for the admission process. An preparatory online course - Mathematics Essentials has been specifically designed to help applicants prepare for this test.

Applicants will be ranked using a composite score that will be based on their overall performance in Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, and the qualifier test.
Applicants will be notified of their composite score within 72 hours of taking the qualifier test.
Option 2
Applicants eligible to appear in JEE (Adv) and have registered for it (in any year) will be given direct admission.
Fee structure
Programme Fee of approx. Rs. 3,49,000 for four-year BSc(Hons) degree as per the following break-up:
Admission Fee: Rs. 50,000. To be paid once at the time of admission.
Course Registration Fee: Rs. 1,000 per credit. To be paid every trimester based on the number of credits registered.

If you have NOT qualified for the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced), and are (hence) NOT eligible for direct admission: you must additionally undertake the Mathematics Essentials online course, and a qualifier test by paying a fee of Rs.2,000/- to be considered for admission into the programme.
