Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is one of the oldest premier Central Universities of India. In 1875, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan founded a High School at Aligarh, which, within three years, was raised to a College known as Mohammadan Anglo Oriental College which metamorphosed into Aligarh Muslim University in 1920 through an Act of Parliament.

In the year 2010, AMU Centre at Malappuram, Kerala and AMU Centre at Murshidabad, West Bengal came into existence with students being admitted to courses in Law and Management.

In the year 2013, AMU Centre at Kishanganj, Bihar was also established and B.Ed. programme was started at all three Centres.

5% seats are reserved for Persons with Disability over and above the approved intake. In Nursing & Architecture, this reservation is within the approved intake.

Note : (i) Candidates applying for admission to B.Tech. can also apply for admission to B.Arch. on the same Application Form after paying additional Admission Test fee of Rs.100/-. Such candidates shall also have to appear in Paper II (NATA) (ii) Students admitted to B.Tech. (Food Technology) shall pay additional Development charges of Rs.20,000/- per annum..

Chance Memo : The University may issue or display `Chance Memo List’ in addition to the list of selected candidates. Chance Memo is not an offer of admission but is issued only in case there is likelihood of a vacancy due to any reason. Chance Memo list, if any, shall be displayed on the notice boards of the concerned Department / Faculty / College / Centre / Proctor’s Office / Controller’s website. It is the responsibility of the candidate to keep track of all such notices. No separate intimation letters will be sent to the candidates offered Chance Memos.

Any seat that remains unfilled after the completion of admissions of candidates on the Select list shall be filled up by the candidate who had reported with reference to his/her Chance Memo as per the notified schedule for reporting, if any, strictly in order of Chance Memo Number. However, if such a vacancy arises after the closing date of admissions, the vacancy shall not be filled up and the same shall remain unfilled.

Simultaneous admission in two fulltime courses: No candidate shall be eligible to pursue a full-time course of study if he / she is already admitted to any full-time course of study in this University or any other University / Institution except those specifically permitted by the University in accordance with rules.

A student, other than a Ph.D. scholar, can pursue simultaneously:

a) two full time academic programmes in physical mode, both from this University or one from this University and another from any other University, only if the class timings for one programme do not overlap with the class timings of the other programme.

b) two academic programmes, one in Full-time Physical mode / Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode / Online mode from this University and another in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode / Online mode; from this or any other University.
